So basically, I have to use my phone to record live or future OTA shows.

But I know it is connected, b/c I can watch shows that are already stored on the hard drive (they play just fine) or I can use the app on my Android phone to record live or future shows.AND they show up on the firestick app as recorded and then I can watch them.
It won't let me record any new OTA shows currently that aren't already scheduled in the past. For example for me (and I did start a separate Reddit thread on this a few days ago) the updated app on my Firestick 4K thinks that there is no hard drive connected to my AirTV 2. They need to correct the issues you pointed out, as well as the sluggish nature, and the fact that it's really playing havoc (in different ways) with user's existing AirTV setups.

To give you an idea of what that means, here is the channel lineup for popular Sling TV Extras: Sports Extra (Orange) for 11/month: MLB Network, MLB Strikezone, NBA TV, SEC Network, SEC Network+, PAC 12 Network, ACC Network, ACC Network+, ESPNU, ESPNews, NHL Network, beIN Sports, Tennis Channel, Longhorn Network. The second thing is in the recent channels screen it does not show the over-the-air channels included via the AirTV so you cannot return to them. No more bringing up the mini guide while viewing a channel or even channel surfing. To change the channel you have to back out of the live stream to view the channel grid in order to select another channel. The first and main thing is the mini guide is missing. That's okay and and to be honest it's exciting. So I just received the new Sling app on my Fire Stick and it's not horrible it's just new and different.
